PORTAL PAPUA - The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi, encouraged to strengthen development cooperation with Papua New Guinea, including through the implementation of a number of Indonesian Government grant projects on health, infrastructure and education. This was conveyed during a Joint Ministerial Commission meeting with the Foreign Minister of Papua New Guinea, Justin Tkatchenko, in Jayapura (8/5/2024).
Foreign Minister Marsudi highlighted several developments in the implementation of Indonesian grant projects in Papua New Guinea, including plans to modernize the Port Moresby General Hospital, renovate the fire station and waste management facilities in Vanimo, as well as an elementary school in Wutung.
"The grant assistance program for Papua New Guinea is part of Indonesia's commitment to strengthening development cooperation in the Pacific region," said Foreign Minister Marsudi.
Foreign Minister Marsudi also emphasized that the meeting this time was indeed historical as it was held for the first time in Jayapura.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tkatchenko expressed his gratitude for Indonesia's grant assistance. "Indonesia is an important partner for Papua New Guinea," said Tkatchenko.
